Run rabbit, run...

Wanted to create a cake with a shooting theme but also wanted a cake that would taste nice and feed a large crowd, so decided to stick with the old faithful 'Devils Chocolate cake' . Used caramel as a filling to be a bit different but i think it went a bit hard in the end. Used butter cream for the grass and made the bunny ears out of royal icing. Found it quite tricky to keep the ears standing up, had to reinforce them with kebab sticks. Im happy with this cake as its a fairly simple design and yummy!

Pitta Patta

Made this baby cake in frustration, to represent my inpatience at having to wait so long for my nephew to arrive... But we shall call it a baby shower. Its just a vanilla sponge but i wanted to try and make little booties out of icing as i had seen it done a few times. CUTE. Now im just going to have to come up with something better for two weeks time when he is finally here....I made this Chocolate cheesecake to, the base is made from Bourbon biscuits

its in the dogs bowl...

Sarah's last day working at the kennels before the arrival of Riley James...Its a basic chocolate cake. baked in a glass bowl with angled edges. turned upside down. hole cut out of the middle. covered in chocolate buttercream icing. malteasers used for doggy biscuits.

Goodbye my friends...

Managed to make 17 in the end (including the 2 i made on the day) Sold all of them. (apart from the last one which i gave to an auction). They were well received. WAY more popular than i could have imagined. Giving them all name tags was a great idea. Currently making the last one now, it was a request from a boy who wanted me to send him a blue one, i must be mad!

chew chew stu

Its a cake with an Austrian train exiting a tunnel in the austrian alps...or thats what i'm telling people... Made it for a fan of Austrian trains, hopefully the recipient will recognise what i was trying to achieve. its made of three layers of chocolate cake, carving the third layer into a hill and using the extra pieces of cake to make the train. i used coconut and green colouring for the grass on top of the green fondant for extra texture and to cover up the cracks.

Tockwith Show

This is why there was a long period of what appeared to be little activity, but i was actually just stock piling...so much still to do, so little time. Hopefully people will buy them or else i shall be stuck with the little bleeders

SS Birthday

Same choclate cake that i have made many times before, but this time it tasted so much better, think it helped that i let it cook all the way through, Today's Tip: don't be impatient! and i didnt use butter icing, that stuff can get boring...

JW Birthday converse cake

My first 3D Cake. Made by baking a victoria sponge in a loaf tin X2. The first cake was used as the foot base shape and the second cake was cut up to put on top for the ankle bit, the pieces of sponge were held in place with chocolate frosting and carved into the right shape. another layer of frosting was pasted all around the outide to help the icing stick to the sponge.

I rolled out the black icing and laid it on top (this was the trickiest part) i couldn't roll it out big enough to cover the whole shoe so there were a lot of joins that needed fixing, i found the best way to blend cracks and joins is by using a knife soaked in hot water and smudging it. all of the other bits of icing were then added, edible felt tip pens are very useful for detail!

People seemed to be impressed, but i have just thrown it out because no one ate it, oh well.

wedding cake

For all my 2 followers out there, i know this is the photo you have been waiting for... It actually all went quite well, buns cooked beautifully, the icing took me about 3 hours, the whole process took all day, but it was worth it, probably wont be doing it again any time soon though. Luckily photos were taken before the stand collapsed in the afternoon, (my fault for not assembling it properly)only one actully fell on the floor.

Another birthday...

23.03.09 This birthday girl has a fondness for my cupcakes so i thought why not make a dozen of them instead of a cake. It was also a good opportunity to practice my cupcake making skills in the build up to the wedding of the year, im quite confident with the recipe now but need to work on the icing. Think i might go and try some piping styles out now...

4 years and still going strong...

Yesterday, 20th March 2009, was an anniversary between me and him so obviously i made him a cake, either that or a sock creature, i know which i would prefer... Anyway this is a Chocolate and Orange Marble Cake, (yes i had a few oranges that needed using) Nothing too special about it apart from the marble thing, that was a new one. you make two separate batter mixes, one with cocoa powder, and the other with the orange juice and rind, to make the marble effect you place dollops of the mixes into the tin and then use a skewer to blend one colour into the other. More simple than it looks and great fun! I thought i would add both of these photos, one to show you the final product and one to demonstrate that i am a fan of my own work, ultimatley it was a cake for him, yet who is the firt to tuck into a slice...

Fo' Mo

This next creation was a request, the socks were passed on to me, and i knew what i had to do... Not exactly sure who she is for (lost in translation) but i know she will go to a good home. I love her little bows. She took me a couple of evenings to make, mainly because i sewed her arm on inside out, twice! What an idiot!

Chocolate Orange Tea Loaf

For once i baked with no occasion in mind, just an evening of indulgence. I made this Chocolate Orange Tea Loaf and myself and Mr Weller ate the whole lot, i say it must be healthy as it has fruit in it! It was a standard tea loaf with chocolate chips and orange rind. Dont know why i hadnt thought to put chocolate in a loaf before, what a wonderful ingredient you can put it in just about anything.

Happy 80th Birthday!

Unfortunately we wont be around for this special Birthday as we are on a ski break, bad timing. So fruit cake is the only option here, granted not many people like the stuff, but its the only thing that i can make in advance. The fruit cake has been covered in Marzipan, most people dont like that either so i have kept it thin, but i pressume it must have some importance so i didnt want to leave it off. The marzipan layer is then covered in Reglaise icing and decorated with sugar flowers.

Happy 25th Birthday

Today it is my friends Birthday so i made her her ideal cake, Chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate, she is fond of the stuff! The icing is made with White chocolate and decorated with Thornton's chocolates. Giving up chocolate for lent is going to have to be put back a day....

D.O.B 12-02-09

Another sock creature has been born! This time a request and a thank you gift. He is going to a lovely home where i know he will be loved for who he is. Thanks Kate and Bob for feeding us, i hope this little guy provides you with the happiness you deserve xx

Eat me!

This week i made a cake for Sam's first birthday, it was a plain sponge with chocolate butter icing, cut to the shape of a number 1, unfortunately i didn't get to take a photo before it was eaten and thrown on the floor. However, I have just found a photo of some cupcakes that i made before i started this blog so i thought i would put those up instead, i'll be make a lot more like these in the run up to my Dads wedding ...

New year, New hobby

Most of the time between summer and Christmas last year was spent editing Wedding videos, now they are out of the way i can make time for new things. For Christmas i got a lovely little Sewing Machine and i also got a great book on making 'Stupid Sock Creatures', put those two things together and here's the result...My first little buddy, his name is George, i think he might be Gay, anyway soon he shall have some friends. I like my new hobby but unlike baking you can't eat the damn things you just have to look at them and go 'awww'...

We'll try again!

Like last year i thought to myself, 'its a new year, i should do a blog'. Last years attempt consisted of two blogs into 2 months, (and both of them were crap) but i think i just had it all wrong last year, i was too thoughtful, no one would want to read my thoughts, i don't even want to read my thoughts, so i thought this year i wont babble, i'll just use this blog as a presenting/ showing off tool, simple! I like to make things.

And one of the first things i made this year was a Spiderman birthday cake for a four year old boy named Luke, it was his birthday and he likes Spiderman, thats was my thought process. Anyway, it was fun too make and i achieved the look i was after... come to think of it i'm pretty sure it was a magic cake, because after eating it, the lad was pratical climbing walls just like his superhero... nothing to do with the copious amounts of artificial colouring used in an extreme effort to get the icing red!
